Did you ever wonder what Smog was? Aside from the literal meaning of
Smog which is the murky atmospheric byproduct of our industrialized society, Smog has manifested itself into becoming the premiere take on Dubstep in Los Angeles. From the moment of its conception, founders, Andrew Best and Colm Doherty, put together their heads, and forged a crew of dj's, producers, promoters, and sound systems, in order to attain the goal of “dubstep” in Los Angeles. The
first Smog event (Smog Sessions 01 ft Nman & Matty G) was promoted as "an experiment in dubstep," and the results were a big success. Within a year ‐ LA has grown in size to a movement complete with its own events, dj’s, producers, radio shows, sound systems, club nights, and audience. What started as the idea of a few individuals became the creation of a sound with a mind of its own.
With that being stated, Smog set forth a new mission to create a Record Label, which future plans coincide with Smog Sessions “We see our label growing with our scene. It will be an integrated part of everything we do, ranging from events, and radio shows. We have the audience and means to present this music, and having a label will be he source for the end users experience to remember this by.”
Andrew Best (Co Founder & Label Owner)
Smog Records is making a mark on Dubstep, with future releases slated by Pawn, EMU, DLX, and remixes from a number of past guests of the Smog Sessions.
We also are proud to announce Smog Check, which is a mix tape series from the mind of knife dreams (smog la) that will be launched with the vinyl debuts. It will feature music that is forthcoming on the label, and artists who have played at the previous smog sessions.
