Jewels is an up and coming U.K singer soulstress with a passion for reggae and real soul in music. Her distinctive voice and style is what makes her uniquely special, and her songs reflect the broad range of musical styles she was brought up on. She has been working with the legendary Mad Professor on some fresh Sly and Robbie tracks and has been joining him to perform at sell out shows in the U.K and internationally. She has her own band and has performed with Jah Lion sound, JahWorks, Aqua Livi, Breakin Even, Hazel O'Conner, Pama International, the Dub Pistols, Zion Train, Chumbawumba, Dreadzone, Alabama 3, and has even played a private personal performance for Youssou N'Dour! Jewels grew up listening to Motown, Soul, Rock 'n' Roll and old Trojan records. At a young age she was always tapping rhythms on tables, and desperate to play drums, and she did day and night, but soon after craved song-writing and turned her attention to singing and playing guitar. By the age of 13 she was writing and recording songs in her bedroom and used it as a way to escape and express herself spiritually. As there seemed to be more male musicians than female, this became a driving force behind her ambition to nurture and fulfill her gift in the hope that one day she could inspire other women to get out there and play. Jewels's love for Dub music began when she wandered into a club whilst down in Penzance back as a young teen. Since then her path has always been around Reggae music and she began singing with the sound system Jah Lion from Reading when she was 19. Three years later she started her own woman sound system called ‘Shee Sound’ playing roots and dub music. During this time she was fronting the band Burnt Lychee before forming her current line up Bluesy Soul Reggae band 'Jewels and the Jacuzzis'. She is currently working on bringing out an album of her own songs which will be available very soon. |
